Selena and Aerith are fraternal twin sisters. Both are gifted with beautiful voices. In their world, those who are gifted with especially beautiful voices can cast magic spells by singing. One day, a dragon threatens the kingdom and requests for a beautiful maiden with certain physical traits that possesses this ability as well as a monthly tribute to be given to him in exchange for the kingdom’s safety. The best singers are gathered from throughout the land and Selena is chosen.

Outraged at the King’s decision to sacrifice her sister without a fight, Aerith sets out on a journey to defeat the dragon, but not before calling the King and his men out on their cowardice and declaring that she’ll defeat the dragon.

She songcasts herself weapons and faces the dragon despite just being a peasant girl and all the Knights being too cowardly to fight. She finds her sister chained up on a pedestal and singing before the dragon. A battle ensues with Aerith singing as she fights, increasing her fighting skill and prowess. She kills the dragon, who dies with a mighty, earth shaking roar. She then removes one of the dragon’s teeth to free her sister.

As she is doing this, hundreds of the King’s knights approach the cave, expecting to see her remains  but see her standing on top of the dragon to get her sister. Aerith is then hailed as a hero and a place at court is offered to Aerith. She refuses the honor, takes a monetary reward, and returns to her village with her sister.
