It’s official! The Writing Coconut blog has existed for a full year!
YAY! WOOTWOOTWOOT!
Thank you to everyone who has joined and followed this blog over the course of the year. Since creating the blog on August 9th, 2022,
51!
people have decided to subscribe to The Writing Coconut.
Though I don’t know most of you personally, I am grateful to everyone who has followed this blog and interacted with my posts.
Honestly, I didn’t think a lot of people would be interested in following my blog and seeing my writing, but you guys have definitely proven me wrong!
I initially began The Writing Coconut as a result of a summer publishing program I took part in. Many of the speakers had gotten their start in publishing running blogs and social media pages about their personal interests. Many of them either built up a large enough following that they could build their own brand, or used the skills that they developed to join larger companies. Since I was still job hunting and had some time on my hands, I decided to start the blog to get my writing out there.
The Writing Coconut was originally just a Tumblr blog, but I transitioned the blog to its own domain after realizing that Tumblr alone wasn’t the best way to present my work, especially since my content wasn’t fandom related or a theme that would get a Tumblr audience hooked. Having my own site also made it easier to organize and find my own posts when I needed to. (While the Tumblr desktop does allow blogs to have folders and categories, I had difficulty creating a good UI for it with Tumblr’s tools. Also, most users access the site via the app, making my attempts with the desktop site moot.)
I’ve learned some things since starting this blog.
I learned about my limits. When I first started the blog, I had set it up so that there was a post every day. However, after doing that for a couple months, I realized that wasn’t sustainable. The amount of creative work I had stockpiled was limited and worrying about providing fresh content for every day once it ran low took the fun out of blogging. I changed to a more sustainable schedule, but even then I had to realize there were times where life would get in the way or I’d just have nothing of substance to share.
I got to practice working with Canva more, especially when it came to my name lists. Doing the commentaries on my older works also opened my eyes to the ways I’ve changed as a person and as a writer.
Overall, I’m glad for the time I spent working on this blog. I look forward to another year of blogging. Thank you for bearing with your writing coconut!
ThankTh
