Happy Juneteenth everyone! I hope everyone who is able to take a day off and celebrate today is able to. For those of you that don’t know what Juneteenth is, it’s a U.S. federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Texas were told they were free two months after the end of the civil year and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth has only recently become a federally recognized holiday, with this year (2023) only being the third year that the holiday has been observed nationwide.
As much as I wish I had a piece to share on this day, as my previous announcement has stated, I’ve had very little time to prepare ,unfortunately. I will be posting a piece I was requested to write for my church’s Father’s Day service. That will be up later on today. Until then, and even beyond, enjoy the day.
