A normal little girl creates an imaginary friend for herself. The imaginary friend is a magical girl with the ability to transverse dreams and fight nightmares. The two spend a lot of time together and the imaginary friend helps the little girl through the typical trials of childhood and plays with her. However, as the girl grows older, she begins to play with her imaginary friend less and less, causing the friend to slowly fade from existence. Realizing this, the imaginary friend makes a wish on a star to stay with the girl even as she grows up. The star grants her wish, keeping the imaginary friend from fading from existence and making her able to interact with the material world.
The imaginary friend stays with her girl, however, she is the only one who can see the imaginary friend. The imaginary friend is mischievous and begins pulling pranks on those around the girl. One of the pranks backfires and when the girl tries to explain that the imaginary friend did it, she gets the blame because no one can see the imaginary friend. People see her interacting with the friend and she’s mistaken for schizophrenic. When the medications don’t work on the girl, she’s sent away to a mental health facility.
Angry at being locked away and thought to be crazy, the girl lashes out at the imaginary friend for ruining her life and tells her to leave her alone. Heartbroken, the imaginary friend leaves the girl.
From then on the imaginary friend wanders, searching for a purpose without her creator. She is only seen by young children and in dreams.
