After violently rejecting a rude suitor, a princess is sent away by her father to a castle guarded by a dragon. She is to stay in the castle until one of two things happens: her father finds a husband for her and calls her home or someone defeats the dragon and claims her hand.
She is dissatisfied with this arrangement and avoids her dragon guard. That is until she accidentally discovers the dragon’s human form. The two form a friendship that eventually turns into love. She has a child with him but her father calls her back home.
The father sees what his daughter has done and is enraged. He tries to dispose of the child but the dragon attacks the castle. The court mage defeats the dragon by putting it into a deep slumber and wipes the princess’s memories of the dragon and her child. The court mage is ordered to kill the child but instead casts a spell to hide its draconic nature and sends it away. The princess is then married off to a foreign king.
The story picks up 16 years later when the spell wears off and the child awakens their draconic nature. She then sets off on a quest to find her parents.
