Story Scrap: Winter Sickness

Two farm animals are pit against each other two or three times. One is foolish and is being goaded into it despite holding no malice toward the other. One instance is about sharing food with his brother so he can steal the other’s food. While these instances are happening, the family that owns them faces tragedy. The mother dies from an illness that makes her cold and the youngest daughter catches it too. The father and son wrap her up and try to keep her warm. All the other animals die, including the malicious voice pitting two of them against each other. The father asks them all to gather around the fire with the daughter to try to keep her warm. The dad comments that the two animals don’t like each other, but the dull one disagrees and says they’re brothers and they all lay down together.

The girl survives thanks to the love of the others.
