Christmas Fun Fact #2

Why do we kiss under mistletoe?

In an old Norse legend, Frigga, the goddess of love, had a son named Baldr. To protect her beloved son, Frigga made every creature and everything promise not to harm him, with the exception of mistletoe. The trickster god, Loki, learned this and tricked Hoth, Baldr’s blind brother, into shooting him with an arrow made of mistletoe, killing the god. Frigga’s tears of sorrow fell onto the mistletoe and turned into its white berries. She decreed that the plant should never cause harm again but instead promote love and peace. From then on, anyone caught under the mistletoe would kiss, even if they were enemies.
