Babe-Sensei parked her car on the side of the empty highway. As she stepped out she took a look around. The western suburbs of Brighton melted away into rolling grassy flat land that shined silver under the night sky. Away from the town’s bright lights, the stars shone bright as she stood underneath them.
Babe Sensei felt a gust of wind rush past her a car rushed past on its way into town.
“I guess I should start walking,” she murmured to herself.
She was glad that Dinari had finally decided to make contact with them again. Even though he had given them special phones that could reach him anywhere, he hadn’t been answering any of their calls. Hopefully their meeting tonight would give them clearing instructions as to what they were here to do.
Babe-Sensei was appreciative of the job of course. Bertram Academy paid it’s teachers a great deal more than a public school did but still, the task of teaching her class for so many subjects was a heavy one and Babe-Sensei wasn’t exactly sure why it was necessary.
She was walking for quite a distance until eventually a group of figures came into view, illuminated by the gibbous moon’s light.1
“Hello!” Babe-Sensei called out with a wave as she approached.
“Babe-Sensei,” said Azlyn.
The others turned towards their teacher. Most of class 9-S was there with the exception of Arcene.
“Am I late to the party?” asked Babe-Sensei as she walked up.
“No,” said Azlyn. “Starboy is still on his way. Even though it’s already past nine,” she added as she looked at her phone’s clock.
“That reminds me: Class, as soon as this meeting is over, head home and get some sleep. We still have school tomorrow and I WILL NOT be having any of you falling asleep in class!”
“Yes ma’am,” came the chorus of replies.
“He’s here!” shouted Henry, pointing towards the sky.
1. I love the image of the whole cast in a grassy field underneath twinkling stars and a bright moon.
Unfortunately, that’s the end of everything I wrote for “From Monochrome to Vibrancy”. I gave up writing it because around this time my interests had shifted and I was focused on applying to colleges. I also stopped going on Wattpad as much. I don’t quite remember what was supposed to happen in this chapter, as I don’t have it written down in my outline. I assume that Arcene was going to show up and realize everyone’s connection to Dinari.
Looking at the notes I had for this story, there are so many subplots. Honestly, the whole story would have taken years to write even if I had been consistent. It’s definitely something that would fit more as webcomic series if I had kept up with my drawing hobby or a collection of short stories otherwise. Literally every character in the main class had their own subplot and there were also episodic plots involving the whole class dealing with magical nonsense. At one point, everyone was going to be a magical girl/boy. Add on to that, the villains that were going to be causing trouble behind the scenes, and there would have been a whole lot to this! Never mind a singular novel!
Overall though, I did enjoy writing the story when I was doing it, and doing commentary on it did take me down memory lane. Maybe one day I’ll pick up the story again or if not, I could always take the characters and give them their own things. I did imagine epilogues and spin-offs for some of them at one point.
I still have some profiles for the characters left to post, so I will do that. I also have other notes related to Monochrome that I’m not sure if I’ll post as they are or integrate into something else, so we’ll see about that. I’ll be editing previous posts to add links to content that came later. I’ll also post yet another of my unfinished projects for commentary. Otherwise…
I hope you have enjoyed “From Monochrome to Vibrancy”.
