So I read The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin recently and while reading, I realized that there were quite a few words in the novel that I didn’t know the meaning of. While the book has a few terms that are unique to the alien civilization the main character has made contact with, (ex. shifgrethor), I found plenty of other words that I had to extrapolate from the text to understand. I started writing the unfamiliar words down so that I could look them up later (I think this is a good practice that everyone should do. It helps expand the vocabulary). I realized that my discoveries could be useful to others, so I’ve decided that every Wednesday starting tomorrow, I’ll do a sort of “Word of the Day” thing.
